Tenure-track-Professor (W1) Physics of complex Systems (Theory) (m/f/d)

We are looking for an outstanding young scientist who will strengthen and complement the research profile of physics at the University of Ulm in the direction of statistical physics and thermodynamics in the classical or quantum regime in at least one of the following research topics: modelling of complex biological and chemical systems, study of the dynamics and thermodynamics of molecules or nanostructures, application of statistical mechanics and thermodynamics to processes on the nanoscale and to the interaction of light with soft matter. With the application, an innovative, interdisciplinary research concept must be submitted that demonstrates collaborations within the faculty (biology, chemistry, physics) as well as outside, e.g. with the Medical Faculty, and with collaborative projects such as the Centre for Integrated Quantum Science and Technology (IQST) or the Centre for Quantum Biosciences.
In addition to research, the tasks of the future position holder include teaching in theoretical physics, active acquisition of third-party funding, participation in research collaborations, and the assumption of tasks in academic self-administration.
Employment is as a temporary civil servant or as an employee; as a rule, for a term of 6 years.
If the evaluation is positive, appointment to a tenured W3 professorship will be offered. Requirements for a later transition to a W3 professorship are defined in the Ulm University Statute on Quality Assurance in Appointing and Evaluating Tenure-Track Professors of 21 November 2018

Employment requirements are completed university studies as well as
teaching aptitude, a doctoral degree and further pertinent scientific achievements (§ 51 Abs. 2 LHG).
