The position is assigned to the research field of “Language and the Bodily Self” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Cornelia Herbert. The project investigates the neuronal and biobehaviorial correlates of the minimal, bodily self and the linguistic self in experimental paradigms triggering multimodal perceptual and action control. Research methods include electrophysiological (EEG) and peripheral-physiological methods. The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft)

Your profile:

  • excellent university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in the field of Psychology or a related field (e.g. Cognitive Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Neural Information Processing)
  • strong interest in emotion psychology and cognitive psychology
  • interest in technical questions (Computer Science, Engineering, AI (Artificial Intelligence)) and data modelling
  • excellent knowledge of experimental methods as well as knowledge and willingness to learn, use and apply cognitive and neuroscientific methods (e.g. Electroencephalography (EEG), Peripheral Physiology)
  • experience and willingness to program (e.g. Presentation, PsychoPy, Matlab, R)
  • excellent English writing and communication skills
  • motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • willingness to do a doctorate

Your responsibilities:

  • conducting research and experimental studies (implementation and programming, data collection and analysis)
  • taking charge of laboratory experimental tasks and extension of project relevant research methods
  • presentation of research results at scientific conferences and publishing study results in English scientific journals as author and coauthor
  • cooperation in an interdisciplinary team
  • motivation to design, execute and evaluate scientific studies within the context of a doctorate
