Ulm University is seeking to fill the full-time position of
(W 3 plus performance-related pay)
as of 1 October 2026.
The President represents Ulm University both internally and externally and chairs the Board and the Senate. He or she strengthens the University's position in the Excellence Strategy and fosters dialogue and cooperation with politics, science, business and society.
We are looking for a leader familiar with German and European university structures and policies to fill this responsible position. You should have several years of management experience at a university, a research institution or a large industrial research unit.
You have built a successful research career yourself. You are able to strategically develop existing focus areas and strengths of our University and tap into new potential for excellence.
In addition to your profound academic expertise, you look back on many years of teaching in a university environment. You have a deep understanding of academic processes and use your in-depth expertise in knowledge and technology transfer for efficient implementation along the value chain. You see internationalisation in research and teaching as a central mission and aim to strengthen international networks and partnerships to enhance the global visibility of our University. Your previous successes demonstrate your ability to innovate, also with regard to digitalisation, and your excellent strategic skills. We expect a high degree of analytical thinking, negotiating skills, leadership competence and strong communication and integration skills. Moreover, you should be committed to expanding Ulm University's existing network at a regional, national and international level positioning it visibly. We expect fluency in German and English.
The basic requirements for the position are set out in section 17 (3) of the Baden-Württemberg State Higher Education Act (LHG).
The President is a temporary civil servant unless a fixed-term employment relationship is established by contract, section 17 (2) LHG. The term of office is six to eight years as finally decided by the Supervisory Board. Re-election is possible.
