Within your project, you develop a theory of non-equilibrium thermodynamics for post-lithium batteries on the basis of existing theoretical approaches, which allows a stronger multiscale coupling to both atomistic and larger scales. The project is embedded in a cross-cutting project of the Cluster of Excellence that aims at developing a continuous simulation chain from the atomistic to the cellular scale of post-lithium batteries. The stronger coupling of continuum theories describing the electrode and cell scale and atomistic theories is a crucial step for establishing an ab initio simulation of cell concepts and will help to decisively accelerate the safe and cycling stable design of novel post-lithium batteries.

Your profile:

  • Above-average scientific university degree in physics, mathematics, engineering, chemistry or similar (Diploma/Master's degree)
  • PhD in natural or engineering sciences
  • English language proficiency corresponding to at least C1 level
  • Professional experience in at least one of the following areas: Mathematical modeling, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, density functional theory
  • Very good analytical skills
  • Experience in programming skills with Matlab, Python, or C/C++
  • Independent and result-oriented way of working
  • Enjoyment of innovative research

Your responsibilities:

  • Further development of modeling approaches for Post-Lithium-Batteries
  • Modeling based on a free energy functional and implementation of the simulation
  • Close interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Presentation of results at international conferences and in scientific journals
