Background: The new Ecosystem Research Group (Prof. Dr Emma Sayer) in the Institute of Botany investigates the mechanistic basis for ecosystem responses to global change. We study interactions between plants and soil processes by integrating methods from botany, ecology, soil science, and biogeochemistry. We conduct both large-scale field studies and detailed laboratory experiments. Current projects include research into carbon storage and greenhouse gases in tropical forests and climate change impacts in temperate forests and grasslands.

Your profile:

    • Enthusiasm for a career in research and teaching in ecosystem ecology
    • Completed PhD in Ecology, Plant Sciences, Forest Research, or similar discipline
    • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively as part of an interdisciplinary team
    • Experience with ecological or ecophysiological measurements in the field; possibly also with functional measurements in the laboratory
    • Willingness to learn and acquire new research skills
    • Good working knowledge of German and English
    • A category B driving license or willingness to obtain a driving license

Your responsibilities:

    • Project management, including independently planning, conducting, and evaluating scientific studies (lab and field) in ecosystem ecology
    • Data collection and management, as well as data analysis in R
    • Writing and contributing to scientific publications
    • Co-supervising B.Sc. and M.Sc. research projects and contributing to taught courses
    • Presenting research results at conferences and symposia
