For the Humboldt Center for Philosophy we are looking for a

Academic employee (m/f/d) Ph.D. student or PostDoc

Your profile:

• An excellent university degree in Philosophy (or a closely related field), ideally with a specialization in the philosophy of science.
• For applicants at the postdoctoral level: an excellent PhD in Philosophy (or a closely related field), ideally with a specialization in the philosophy of science.
• A research record appropriate to the applicant's career stage, including publications, preferably in international peer-reviewed journals.
• The ability to teach in both German and English (or a willingness to acquire this ability).
• A high degree of independence, strong organizational skills, and reliability.
• Enthusiasm for philosophical and scientific exchange, as well as for teaching and the communication of knowledge.

Your responsibilities:

• Conduct independent research in philosophy (primarily by working toward a doctoral dissertation or pursuing postdoctoral research and publications), preferably in one or more of the following areas: philosophy of science, science and values, political/social epistemology, or philosophy of mind.
• Actively contribute to the activities of the Humboldt Centre, for example by helping to organize workshops or participating in interdisciplinary research projects (e.g. within the RTG KEMAI).
• Teach courses equivalent to 3 / 4 semester hours per week (3 or 4 SWS), including service teaching for students from all disciplines or subject-specific courses such as Philosophy of Science for Biology, Philosophy of Science for Chemistry, etc.

  • Cover letter
  • Curriculum vitae, including a list of publications, conference presentations, courses taught, organized academic events, periods of study or research abroad, and project experience
  • Copies of academic certificates and transcripts (secondary school leaving certificate, Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, PhD certificate, if applicable, and other relevant certificates)
  • A writing sample of 20–40 pages (e.g. an excerpt from a thesis or a published/unpublished article)
  • A 1–2 page description of the research project to be pursued at Ulm University
