The Institute for Energy Conversion and Storage at the University of Ulm conducts research in the field of modular inverters with cascaded H-bridges for battery storage. After successfully applying this technique in home storage systems, the institute is now aiming to further develop this innovative technology for large megawatt-scale battery storage. A research project, supported by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action with a total budget of around 17.6 million euros and in collaboration with renowned project partners ZSW and SAX Power GmbH, will commence on February 1, 2024. As part of this project with the opportunity for a doctoral degree will be hired in the following areas:

·        Battery management system using deep learning methods

·        Thermal management system with individual power control of H-bridges

·        Bus system with real-time fault detection and correction

·        Active charge balancing within an H-bridge

·        Real-time simulator for battery systems and power grids


Your profile:

    • An above-average completed diploma or master's degree in electrical engineering or another field related to electrical energy technology.
    • Experience and knowledge in the areas of battery management and power electronics are desirable

Your responsibilities:
