Ulm University is a young research university with a focus on natural sciences, medicine and technology. Located in an economically strong region, the University with its more than 10,000 students offers a dynamic work environment with attractive networking and development prospects.
The University is seeking to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and particularly encourages qualified female scientists to apply for this position.
Severely disabled applicants with equal aptitude will be given preferential consideration.
The Institute of Botany investigates the resilience of plants to intrinsic and extrinsic stress. The focus is on the genetic, physiological, morphological and ecological aspects of plant resilience, which determine plant productivity and ecosystem performance under conditions of anthropogenic global change.
Two new professorships are being appointed at the Institute to strengthen the Department of Biology`s research focus on "Stress and Resilience of biological Systems". The professorship in ecophysiology will investigate the resilience of plants to biotic and abiotic challenges at the ecosystem level as well as resilience-related interactions between plants, other organisms and their environment. The professorship should cover one or more of the following research approaches: ecosystem monitoring, functional plant diversity, experimental approaches and Big Data analyses of environmental, ecological, physiological or biochemical parameters to elucidate plant performance before, during and after stress.
We are looking for an outstanding scientist with an internationally visible track record in the field of plant ecophysiology, ecosystem ecology, and/or functional biodiversity. Successful acquisition of third-party funding is a prerequisite. The professorship will be actively involved in the teaching and research activities of the Botanical Garden. Collaborations are expected within the Department of Biology (https://www.uni-ulm.de/nawi/nawibiologie/wissenschaft-forschung/forschungsschwerpunkt
) and with institutes of other Faculties on sustainability, data science, artificial intelligence and/or health.
The professorship is considerably involved in teaching ecology and organismic biology, including excursions, within the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in biology and biochemistry, and in the education of biology teacher students. Teaching is carried out in German and English. Willingness to participate in the academic self-administration of the faculty is required.
