Academic employee / Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d)

Genomics und Metagenomics of Coronavirus-infected bats

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with an exceptional academic record, enthusiasm for and experience in research, independently and as part of a team. Importantly, the candidate should be interested to work interdisciplinary as to understand the importance of genomic variability of virus infections (Coronavirus, Astrovirus) in a species complex of African bats and its consequences for host microbiome and metagenomics.

Your profile:

  • Completed PhD in biology or related disciplines
  • Research focus or experience in genomics (SNPs) and/or metagenomics (microbiome)
  • Sound bioinformatics and statistics knowledge to analyze high-throughput-sequencing
  • Advanced communication skills with proven record of written and verbal scientific contributions in English and German
  • High social competency, commitment and enthusiasm to work as part of a team
    Some teaching experience

Your responsibilities:

  • Interested in research to grasp how environmental change impacts the health of wildlife, particularly, to understand the mechanisms behind zoonotic infections, and their implications
  • Bioinformatic analysis of SNPs
  • Data curation and cleaning, multivariate statistics, statistical modelling and meta-analytics
  • Publishing in internationally recognized scientific journals
  • Support and supervise thesis/dissertation writing of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Teaching Evolutionary Ecology and Conservation Genomics / EcoHealth in BSc and MSc courses (4 hours per week during the semester)
